Where is the best place in the U.S. to fish for Yellowfin Tuna?

When it comes to fishing for yellow fin tuna in the United States, there are as many places from which to fish as there are opinions about which one of these places offers the best fishing opportunities for anglers out to catch yellow fin!  However, one thing is certain—there is no better place in the continental United States to catch yellow fin tuna than in the golden state of California!  The fact is that the fish just love the California temperatures and sun!

As you chase after the Yellow fin, realize that these fish are likely to be caught by anglers that understand where they are and when they are traveling.  Yellow fin are not as big on travel as are their other tuna cousins, but later in the summer the water off the coast of California tends to be at its warmest, and they can be found as far to the north as Morro Bay at this time.

The following is a brief list of a few of the prime fishing spots for yellow fin in California:

  • Bodega Bay, California
  • Baja, California
  • San Pablo Bay, California
  • Monteray Bay, California
  • Pt. Reyes, California
  • Santa Cruz, California

Outside the continental United States, Hawaii would hold the title of best place to catch yellow fin tuna in the United States, and few would dispute the statement that the areas off the island of Oahu are prime targets for yellow fin tuna.  The best way to find them in these locations is to talk to the locals!
