The Yellowfish Tuna

How big can the Yellowfin Tuna get?

The Yellowfin Tuna is a type of Tuna fish that we eat every day in sandwiches, jacket potatoes and various other tasty meals, but do you really know about how big they can grow? I am sure the answer is no.

Like many people we all eat our food and dont really think about where the food actually comes from and what the animal we are eating is really like.

The Yellowfin Tuna has the latin name Thunnus Albacares and lives in the warmer seas throughout the world (although not in the Mediterranean for some reason). The Yellowfin Tuna lives in the top column of the seas, this means that it does not venture any lower than three hundred and thirty feet below the water surface. Yellowfin live in large schools with different species of tuna fish, dolphins and other larger fish of different varieties.

The Yellowfin Tuna fish is a large fish that grows up to two hundred and forty centimetres in length when it is a fully matured adult and can weigh up to an impressive two hundred kilograms (thats a huge four hundred and forty pounds in weight).

Many people don’t realise the full size of the Yellowfin tuna as they only see it on a plate in a restaurant or in a small tin from a supermarket.

Many fishermen love the thrill of catching Yellowfin Tuna due to their large size and the fight they give when you have them on the end of a hook. Many fishermen prize the strength and agility of the Tuna fish when the battle ensues and glory in landing this wonderful fish.
