Outfitting Your Yak For The Big One….

What do you think the best fishing rig for a kayak is?

I’m not sure what is ‘best, but I use the Scott Pivoting Rod Holder in front of my cockpit (I use a Pelican Pursuit 100 SIK most of the time), and a PVC Rig that holds 4 rods behind the cockpit for spares. I have a pair of retractable pontoons mounted at the rear so I can stand up if needed (I bowfish from my Yak, as well), and a standing brace. I have a plastic crate (cut down in front) mounted on the stern to carry things in, and another mounted on the bow (not cut down) for even more storage. This is handy when jug or trotline fishing.

If you were going to do much trolling, I would recommend a pair of Scott Rod holders mounted one to each side, behind the cockpit, so you could see your rod tips while paddling.
