How and where can I catch Barracuda ?

For Barracuda live bait is you best option. Keep in mind these are very large fish so gear up accordingly. A wire leader is an absolute must with a strong rod and reel that holds over a hundred yards of the proper line. You have a variety of different baits to choose from. Any kind of appropriate size live fish will work well as bait. You can also use large shrimp or even a large crab. The best live baits if you can get them are those that are long and thin. Ballyhoo, large needlefish and especially eels make excellent bait choices. You can of course use artificial baits as well. There is one artificial lure that is made specifically for Barracuda. You will be hard pressed to find any lure that works as well as a tube lure. As you can surmise by the name, tube lures are shaped like a long tube. They are designed to resemble an eel or other long thin creature. The beauty of this lure is the action it imparts as it is retrieved. It resembles a snake side winding its way across the top foot of the water surface. I advise selecting a shade of green with a florescent finish. In the clear waters of the Florida Keys it can by seen and heard for long distances. The best place to fish for Barracuda is certainly the Florida Keys. You can catch them just about anywhere, including right off shore. On my first trip to the Keys I saw a five foot long Barracuda come right up to my dock and stare at me.
