Four sea fishing reels to consider and why

When you’re ready to embark on a sea fishing adventure you need to have the right gear. The species found in saltwater can grow much larger than the ones found in freshwater so your gear needs to be strong enough to handle the fish you catch. The fishing reel plays a major role in how well your fishing trip will go and it can make a big difference in the amount of success you have when sea fishing.
The type of reel that you choose will be determined by the type of fishing you plan to do. For example, if fly-fishing, then you need a fly reel and spinning reels are great for casting. Using the wrong reel for the type of fishing you plan to do will hinder your efforts and make your fishing trip more difficult. Therefore, take the time to match up your gear correctly and this will improve your chances of reeling in more fish.
Your rod, reel and fishing line all work together to create one smooth action that will last from the time you cast out your line until you reel it back in. You don’t want your fishing line getting tangled up when casting or when trying to reel in a fish. This will certainly ruin your fishing trip with the aggravation that it will cause.
Four Sea Fishing Reels
When picking out sea fishing reels, one of the features you need to be aware of is the action of the reel. This is what affects the retrieval of the fishing line, which in turn plays a big role in how well your bait attracts the fish.
Since you need a different reel for each technique you use, here are four sea fishing reels to consider when shopping:
1. Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Baitcasting Reels- Designed with six gears and an instant anti-reverse system this is a great choice for the sea fisherman. The vented spool and “Sensi-brake bearing” system increases sensitivity and smoothness.
2. Trinidad DC – Shimano Conventional Reels- These are designed with a Digital Control braking system with an 8-step adjustment knob. This allows you to adjust the drag to match the conditions in which you’re fishing. Maximize distance with the “ultra long cast mode” or use the “maximum control mode” when fishing in windy conditions or when using live bait.
3. Quantum Aruba PTs Trolling Reels- This is the perfect choice for the big game fisherman. The “Nitrogen-Alloy PT bearings” will crank smoother and last longer than other types. It also has a unique “dual-carbon drag system” to help you reel in those big catches.
4. Shimano Stella SW Saltwater Spinning Reels- With up to 500 yards of fishing line capacity and an excellent drag system, this is an outstanding reel for the species you’ll encounter when sea fishing. It can greatly increase the odds of you actually reeling in the fish you hook.
When you know what to look for in sea fishing reels, it will make it a lot easier to find the ones that will work best for you.
Tips for Buying Sea Fishing Reels
All reels are designed differently to perform in a certain way that will match the technique you use and the water condition in which you’re fishing. You’ll need a variety of reels to be the most productive and the ones listed above are good ones to start out using. Learn how to use one reel at a time and then you can begin adding to your collection.
Before you go shopping for sea fishing reels, consider your skill level. Generally, someone with little fishing experience will start out with spinning reels. These are the easiest to learn how to use so they’re a great one for beginners. After gaining experience, many anglers move up to baitcasting reels. The first time you use any reel, it’s a good idea to practice casting it a few times to get the hang of it before you go fishing.
Sea fishing reels come with a lot of different features, some you’ll need and some you won’t. Learn all you can about these features and only buy fishing reels with the ones that suit your individual needs. There is no need to pay extra for features you don’t need. On the other hand, some of these features can greatly enhance your fishing experience. One such feature is the “wobble-free” action designed to help reduce fatigue. This is an excellent feature for any angler who spends long hours on the water fishing.
Protect your investment by taking care of your reels properly. Rinse them thoroughly with fresh water after each use. Never lay your equipment down or prop them up because this can cause damage especially if they fall over or someone steps on them.
If you love fishing, then sea fishing is sure to be something that you’ll enjoy. When you find the right fishing reels for your needs, it’ll enhance your fishing trip by increasing the number of fish you can reel in on any given trip.
