Flounder

I’m looking for the most deadly flounder fishing baits… can you help?

The deadliest flounder fishing bait I have found is a large lively shrimp. If you are looking for a purely artificial bait I will discuss that as well but if your primary interest is boating the most and largest number of fish your ticket is live bait, in this case a large live shrimp. The Flounder can be a very difficult species to catch for a few reasons. First they are e a wary fish that is why I suggest the following setup. Use a light action graphite rod. It is imperative you know exactly when a Flounder picks up your offering and equally important that you have the required feel to ascertain when the fish has the bait sufficiently. You will also need a reel with a smooth drag because you should be fishing with very light line. I like using four pound test or at the biggest six pound test line fishing for Flounder. I advise using fluorocarbon line for its invisibility properties. With line this light it is imperative you have a reel that has a smooth drag and will fight the fish on its initial run. Flounder can make an initial run that is impressive. When you feel a pickup it is imperative that you do not set the hook immediately as you might for other species of similar size. It will take a Flounder longer than most fish to properly position food in its mouth for eating. Wait at least three seconds before you set the hook and your catch ratio will greatly improve.
