Saltwater Fishing

Saltwater fishing can be very specialized in some areas of the United States. For example, in California and even more so in Hawaii, there are strict regulations regarding the fish that you are allowed to catch and keep, and in California, there are certain areas that are off limits completely. Also, some states have fishing seasons, and targeting certain species out of season can be fined. It is important to know about all of these regulations prior to setting out so that you don’t receive a fine for doing something you shouldn’t. Be aware that, even if there are no important restrictions most of the time, certain weather conditions, such as the hurricanes that recently hit Florida, can affect the regulations temporarily to protect a species whose home might have been altered, causing the population to drop.

Saltwater fishing is a fun sport overall, but it does require a lot of preparation. Most people don’t spend an hour or two sitting on the coastline, so be prepared for a long, intense day, and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy the trip and make it a successful one.
