A wishbone rig Mark II is an improved wishbone. It uses a
free moving boom between 2 beads and about an inch of really stiff line
between two beads. When you use this setup, the tangle
problems with the original wishbone will be greatly reduced.
This works well off piers and harbors and works really well for whiting
and flatties. This allows two different baits to be fished
closely together. The downside is that it is hard to cast
long distance and still snags on rocky ground.
Pulley rigs also work well. They work based on the fact that
heavier weights will hang lower in the water. The lead will
go first when you cast and will lay on the bottom similar to a
paternoster, but whenever you reel the fish in, the lead just tucks out
of the way, making it less likely that it will get snagged on the way
in. The fish will also not feel that little tell tale
resistance when it takes the bait.
