In addition to tools you will want to stock your box with a variety of
baits and terminal tackle. I recommend the following:
A large supply of hooks of various sizes. They generally come
in bags of at least a dozen. I advise keeping a variety on
hand from each size from 8 all the way up to 2/0
A supply of snap swivels for attaching the hook and two or three way
swivels for preparing specialized fishing rigs.
A large assortment of jig heads and jig bodies. You should
always have a variety of different sizes, shapes and colors on hand for
fishing.
Several different spinnerbaits. Spinnerbaits are the best
tool for catching Largemouth Bass, the most popular species of game
fish in freshwater.
Some larger lures such as spoons and crankbaits. Again you
want to keep a wide variety of baits on hand for specialized fishing.
If you will be live bait fishing you will need some bobbers
A fisherman needs weights of various sizes to keep the bait located
where he desires.
This covers most of the equipment the beginning fisherman will
need. There are certainly items you can add as you
go. A landing net for instance is very important when fishing
for certain species. A pair of Kevlar gloves is also a must
if you will be handling large fish that have either sharp teeth or
sharp gill plates. This package of equipment I outlines is
designed for freshwater fishing. When fishing in saltwater
you will need a different set of equipment.
