Taking too much tackle with you in a kayak is not an option. While
there is usually room for all you need, make sure to bring only what
you'll use and save the room for that day's catch. Light tackle is all
you'll need. Spinning outfits are used a lot. Using a spinner is easier
while sitting in a kayak as opposed to a bait caster. The bait you'll
use is no different than what you would use in other watercraft. Use
whatever bait appeals to the kind of fish you want to catch.
Before you head out on the water for a day of saltwater kayak fishing,
pack along an emergency kit and some food and drink for that day. An
emergency kit would include the normal first aid kit items like
bandages, antiseptic, and the like. Keep a separate cooler for your
food and drink. Make sure to wear clothing suitable for the weather
where you will be fishing.
Don't get caught in the cold breezes that come off water without a
jacket and a slicker would be nice for those occasional outbursts of
rain. Make sure you wear sunscreen and wear sunglasses to prevent a
headache from the glare of the sun on water.
Check online for ready made emergency kits just for saltwater kayak
fishing that include portable salt water desalinators for making
drinking water out of saltwater.
