Timing means everything when you fish for flounder. In the fall,
flounder will migrate to deeper waters. The experienced flounder
fisherman knows that after September through about the end of November,
the flounder start their migratory journeys from the rivers and streams
into the deeper waters of the ocean, and this is a prime time for
hooking flounder, too. Flounder will get out to waters that are around
25 feet deep and lay in the bottoms in the sand for the winter months.
Thus, during cooler weather, you can see why a heavy sinker and
dragging bait along the bottom slowly will help you to catch flounder.
The basic tackle you will need for flounder fishing isn't extravagant
and any fisherman who has a decently filled tackle box probably already
has most of what he'll need to go fishing for flounder with. You will
need about a seven foot rod that is semi flexible with a small casting
reel. Use at least a 14# test line so that your line won't get broken
if you get something that is bigger and badder than a flounder. To fish
along the bottom, a sinker is a must. The best kind to use for flounder
fishing or any kind of fishing you do on the bottom that requires
dragging your bait is a trolling sinker. Take along a net for helping
in getting your flounder out of the water. The best eating there is
fried flounder. Most seafood restaurants have flounder on their menu
and it is the most sought after fried fish in the restaurant business.
