Do you have any Australian saltwater fishing tips?

Do you have any Australian saltwater fishing tips? I don’t even know what there is to catch over there. I’ll be visiting soon, and I need some help.

Australia is known for its pristine waters and colorful people, and if you plan on visiting, be prepared for the time of your life! You didn’t mention freshwater fishing, but it really is superb down under. Whether you are fishing from St. Leonards or Bellarine Peninsula for squid, whiting, snapper, or flathead, or fishing Alpine National Park Dargo or Kiewa Rivers for brown or rainbow trout, bass, blackfish, or eels some of the best fishing in this world happens just off the shores of Australia. These tips will help you maximize your fishing experience. First, don’t use any of your freshwater gear that you treasure, for saltwater fishing. Saltwater fishing is just too hard on your gear. If you don’t saltwater fish often, consider renting some good saltwater gear rather than trying to transport yours and chance ruining it. If you plan to buy salt water gear, you should be prepared to invest most of your budget in your rod. An inexpensive reel will work ok for you, but a cheap rod will have too much play in it, and will not work well. Use good line, and good line dressing on it. Clean everything each time you use it. When you are fishing, keep the rod tip pointed toward the water, and keep your slack right to help maintain the right contact between the fly and the tip. Saltwater fish strike hard and fast, and you have to be ready! Strip the line from the reel rather than jerking up on your line to set your hook. Use flies that mimic the natural forage in the areas you are going to be fishing, or use that natural bait. Good choices are always injured bait fish, saltwater creatures, and shrimp. Talk to some of the locals. If you can get tips from those who know the area, you’ll have better luck catching fish. Yellowfin tuna is one of the most sought after, exciting catches that Oz has to offer, particularly along the eastern coast. If you are anywhere near the coast of Green Cape and Jervis Bay, look close to the rocks for these prizes, and get ready for a fight! Other areas good for yellowfin are the southern coastal areas and off Sydney.
