Deep Sea Fishing

What tips do you have for deep sea fishing?

The term “deep sea fishing” can mean many different things. Without knowing the exact type of deep sea fishing you are attempting I cannot be exact with my advice. I will go over the most common form of deep sea fishing and give you my thoughts. The most common form of deep sea fishing takes place son “party boats”. They are called “party boats” because they take large parties of fishermen out to sea to fish. Typically the captain will anchor the large boat over a sunken ship wreck or other large form of structure that holds the entire food chain in one area. Some points to consider when fishing in this manner are: 1) You can catch a very large variety of species fishing in this manner. Be prepared for anything and everything. 2) Use braided line and a rod with a very stout heavy tip. When hooked the fish will invariably try to break the line in the wreck itself. The braided line will not stretch which makes his efforts more difficult. The heavy rod can be used to pump the fish towards the surface and away from the areas of danger to your line. 3) Keep a finger placed on your line to feel pickups. With the heavy rod you will not have the sensitivity to feel strikes, compensate by learning to passively feel the line with your finger. 4) When you hook a fish that is large do not be concerned with playing the fish. Set the drag tight and do whatever you can to get the fish away from the underground structure you are fishing over.
