What is the most difficult saltwater fish to catch?
There are many types of fish that are notoriously difficult to catch, includng bonefish and swordfish. Both of these types of fish present their own set of challenges, and in turn their own set of rewards. However, anglers generally agree that the tarpon is the most difficult to land. Tarpon are large coastal fish that can grow up to eight feet in length and weigh up to 200 pounds. But these fish do not only have size on their side. They are also very well known for their tenacity and fight, which ultimately makes them extremely difficukt to catch. A tarpon will continue to fight an angler until his very last breath. There are two basic areas where tarpon can be caught - under bridges and along beaches. As far as gear is concerned, you want to use an 8′ heavy action rod or spinning outift (depending on if you are fishing at the beach or bridge fishing) when fishing for tarpon. You will also want to use 6 ft. of 100# test monofilament leader, which should be tied directly to the swivel on your 50# test line (through using a palomar knot or an improved clinch knot). As far as bait goes, you can have success with either live bait or artificial bait, though live bait is preferable. Bait such as crabs, shrimp, pinfish, and mullet are most commonly used when fishing for tarpon. You may also want to think about weighting the bait as well, particularly if you are in an area with a rapid tidal current.
