Can I use a bellyboat in saltwater?

can you use a bellyboat in saltwater

Technically speaking, the answer is yes. You can theoretically use a belly boat in saltwater, though there are several things to think about before you do. First of all, you need to consider the way a belly boat is designed. As I’m sure you know, a belly boat is an inflatable horsehoe-shaped tube that has a seat and compartments to store fishing tackle. When a fisherman uses a belly boat, he wears flippers to help propel the tube through the water. Other options to propel the belly boat include a paddle, which many fishermen prefer. The seat, “also known as the “hole,” is generally underwater, while the actual tube part is above water. Traditionally, belly boats are round, though those that are “U” or “V” shaped are becoming increasingly popular, especially since they can move faster through water. There are many advantages to using a belly boat. Many fishermen like the stealthy style of fishing that the belly boat affords. This makes it easier to approach stillwater fish. Belly boats are very popular among fly fishermen, particularly those who fish primarily in lakes. Because a belly boat is small and compact, the potential to be blown about is much more real. This can be a real problem if you are trying to fish in the ocean. You will likely get blown around quite a bit if you are in a belly boat. If you do decide to take the belly boat out in the ocean, I would recommend staying in bay areas or parts of the water that are extremely calm.
