Cacthing Bait

Have any tips for catching bait fish?

There are several different methods for catching bait fish. The proper method is pretty much dependant on the size and amount of bait you will need. If you want to have fin catching your bait a sabiki rig is the way to go. This rig can be used with any rod and reel. It is simply a line with six to eight small brightly colored jigs with small gold hooks. They come in a variety of sizes depending on the size of fish you are after. Some of the larger sizes can even be used to catch larger fish like Jack Crevalles. To use this rig properly you simply cast it into the water and move it up and down with your rod tip. It is very common to catch several small fish at one time when using this rig in the right area. In fact many anglers who in search of fresh bait keep a pole with a sabiki rig handy at all times to catch and use the freshest bait possible. Cast nets are another great way to catch bait. They do however require proficiency that can only be learned through practice. A skilled cast netter can cast this net into a perfect circle and often catch dozens of bait fish in a matter of seconds. The other tried and true method is the use of a bait trap. Simply put this is a large cage that has a bag inside of it filled with bait. The bait fish enter the traps through a hole that is designed so it is easier to enter than exit. If placed in the correct spot you can catch dozens of bait fish with the fish trap.
