Best Fishing Area

What are the best saltwater fishing spots in Florida?

There are many spots to catch fish but two come to mind as the best spots to catch large amounts of fish. The first spot would be near a coral reef. In Florida the best reef areas are undoubtedly in the Florida Keys. The water depths varies, you can fish as shallow as twenty feet and as deep as one hundred feet or more. This fishing is best done with live bait fished very close to the bottom. You can also use cut bait with excellent results, just not as good as live bait. You must have the correct equipment for this kind of fishing. A stout rod with a great deal of backbone is essential. If you hook a very large fish it is imperative that you pull it away from the reef as quickly as possible. Failure to do so will allow the fish to cut your line in the reef; they are quite adept at doing this. You also need a reel with a great deal of power for the same reasons. You can and will catch a variety of different species on the reef, with Grouper and Snapper being the most common species caught. The grass flats of the Gulf of Mexico offer a different kind of fishing. Here you are typically fishing in water that is one to four feet deep. You can however catch fish well over one hundred pound in the shallow grass flats. Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit will be the primary targets in these areas.
