Best Bets For Nets

I want to know what specific type of fishing net I need for spot and the best place to purchase it. Thanks

If you are going to try to net spots, you need a 6 to 10 foot throw net. The larger net you can throw, the better. It takes a lot of practice to learn how to throw the larger 10-12 foot nets, but it is worth the time and trouble. Check out the techniques on YouTube.com.

A throw net is a round net with many small weights attached around the perimeter. It is thrown in a manner that makes it open up, like a parachute, when it hits the water. The weights pull the net down over the fish. The rope is rigged so that when you pull it it, the bottom gathers in and closes the net around the fish, trapping them. When you get it pulled in, holding the top while releasing the rope drops all the catch out through the bottom.

There are many good manufacturers and dealers who sell nets. Some of the better-known ones are Super-Spreader, Bait-Buster, and Janns Netcraft. These are available online. Most baitshops, and even Walmart, carry throw nets. I have never noticed much difference in quality between similar nets. They all work well.

Happy fishing.
